This year was the first year I really got to experience being a “sports mom”. Between the after school practices and games, it can be a lot. One thing I was always worried about was my kiddo staying hydrated during games and practices. Living in the South, I worry about this even when the kids are just outside playing with friends so I was extra concerned during sports seasons.
Finding Something Safe
It seemed like I was always at the store picking up some kind of sports drink thinking between that and water, that it was my best bet for keeping him hydrated. My oldest has a long list of allergies and I was worried that all the artificial sweeteners and things in the drinks wouldn’t be the best thing for him.
We survived our first football and soccer season and believe it or not, it’s time to start up with football conditioning again already. (I told ya we lived in the South!) When I saw the schedule to practice outside in the afternoon in June, I was a little bit worried. Temperatures will be in the 90s with high humidity. Cue the worrying about the kiddo staying hydrated again.
Taste is Important Too!
He’s been working out on his own – at a local park on their fitness stations and using an app on his phone inside the air conditioning. Normally once he finds something he likes, kiddo tends to stick with that. When we had the chance to give BODYARMOUR drinks a try, I was surprised and happy to hear how much he liked them. In fact, all three kiddos said they preferred the BODYARMOUR over the other two options. I like that they’re available at local retailers I already shop at like Kroger, Food Lion, and Target or that I can use my Amazon Prime membership and order them that way.
I didn’t let on that these drinks not only taste better than what he’d been drinking, but they’re also better for him too! Being full of potassium-packed electrolytes, coconut water, and vitamins makes it an easy choice for me when I’m shopping to chose the healthier alternative to other sports drinks. The fact that he preferred the taste in a blind taste test over two of the other leading sports drinks makes it something we’ll purchase for this year’s sporting seasons too. When I tasted BODYARMOUR, I could tell there weren’t artificial sweeteners or flavors in the drinks. They were full of flavor without being sickeningly sweet and didn’t leave a weird after taste in my mouth. Since BODYARMOUR is high in potassium and low in sodium, it’s able to provide superior hydration.
More Than Just On the Field
It’s not easy being a student athlete. Not only are there stringent athletic standards to meet, our school also has strict behavior and academic standards to meet as well. BODYARMOUR is recognizing young athletes working to be their best and is holding a “Next BODYARMOUR Athlete” contest. Do you know an athlete who fits the description? Check out their Facebook page to learn more about the contest and enter your athlete.
What sports are your kiddos playing? How do you keep them hydrated during the sports season and beyond?

It’s so easy to get dehydrated during hot days when we sweat a lot. What a great post and I’m going to use your tips while doing my workouts.

My son isn’t playing sports just yet, but this sounds like a great drink for me when I jog in the summer. It is key to stay hydrated, and it is nice to have healthy drinks that also taste good.

I completely agree that staying hydrated is important, especially during the summer! I’ve been caught walking my daughter to and from school, and I become dizzy due to lack of hydration. No fun!

I don’t really come from a sports background but I can understand the value of a drink that not only keeps you healthy and hydrated but also tastes good as well.

My son plays soccer in summer so staying hydrated is so important. I’m going to check on this drink. I like that they’ve so many flavors. Agreed taste is important too.

These look so much better than the average sports drink. I am going to have to pick some of these up. I think they might be what I want to stay hydrated.
