As the clock struck midnight on October 31st, so many people were counting down to being able to prep for Christmas. Meanwhile, I was thinking about all the germs my kids just picked up traipsing around the neighborhood (and Christmas too of course!). That reminded me that I needed to update my Get Well Soon kit. It never fails that as soon as someone starts to not feel well, it’s the middle of the night and I can’t find what I need, or it’s expired. Off to Kroger I headed, thanks to the invitation from Social Fabric Life and Kroger, and I’m sharing my shopping list with you. Check out my list below and grab the free printable so you can put together your very own kit. Check out this link for more inspiration.
Here’s what I include in my kit. These are products I use, and have used, with good results. Please follow the directions on the packaging and safety warnings. I’m not a doctor and not offering you any medical advice.
Cold Sores
My job involves me being in front of people in a medical setting all day, every day. When I feel a cold sore coming, I apply Abreva at the very first tingle in hopes it will be gone quickly so I can take care of patients without a giant cold sore on my face. It’s easy to apply and can be used at the very first sign of a cold sore. Because it shortens healing time, it’s an easy choice for me.
Sniffles
Being on the go, caplets are so much easier for me to use than liquid. TheraFlu Express Max Severe Cold and Flu caplets help get rid of symptoms quickly and give me the power to feel better and make it through my day. When you have aches and pains as part of your symptoms, TYLENOL® Cold and Flu Severe Day and Night can help. Having one box with both day and night caplets is a perfect fit for me. One box to keep track of makes things so much easier.
Germs
One of the things I do daily (or more often!) is to wipe down hard non-porous surfaces. Don’t just think about the obvious places. Use Clorox Disinfecting Wipes to wipe down door handles, light switches, remotes, and even inside your vehicle! Germs are everywhere. Remember, if you’re using the wipes on a surface that comes in contact with food, rinse it with water after using a wipe before you put food on it again.
Other Things to Include
Tissues for a runny nose
Lozenges
Heating pad
Dry snack foods (individually packed crackers or pretzels for example)
Magazines or a book (to read or activity books)
Storing Your Kit
Depending on your space, you can use different containers to hold your kit. A cute basket works wonderfully. If you’re more limited on space, consider a plastic container with a lid so it can be stacked on a shelf to save space and keep everything together. Having everything together and easy to grab makes life easier when the germs hit your house. Set up a spot on the couch, grab your get well soon basket, and let them rest and recover.
Print the list below to take to Kroger with you and put together your very own Get Well Soon kit. Don’t forget to check for digital coupons to help you save even more. All the products were very easy to find in Kroger. Check in the medication section (mine’s near the pharmacy) for the medication. The Clorox Disinfecting Wipes were in the cleaning aisle of Kroger and even had different scents to choose from. You can also get more ideas for healthy holidays.
