Moms practically live in their cars. Running from school to work, soccer practice to play dates. We’re always in the car. Chances are good you’re also been stuck in the car longer than you’ve planned at times or forgotten something running out of the house and not remembered until you were in your car and it was too late to turn around. (I can’t be the only one that happens to!)
I keep a small bag of must haves in my car. For me, it’s things that I usually carry in my purse too but it doesn’t hurt to have extras. Things like mascara (for mornings when I wonder how I got out the door so quickly then realize everything I forgot…), feminine hygiene products (because Mother Nature likes a surprise every now and again), pain relievers (because kids), and lip gloss (super quick way to add a little color and shine).
Snacks and Drinks
If you’ve got kids, you’ve probably got some things for them on hand. Don’t forget yourself too! After a tough day, breaking out the secret stash of Twizzlers is just what you need on your drive home from work. (Just make sure whatever you’re stashing doesn’t melt…) Keeping a bottle of water or two in the car can totally save you when you need a drink or when you need to clean up a spill.
Make sure at least one of the presets on your radio is set to a station YOU like. It doesn’t have to be all about the kids. Or if you can play music from your Amazon Music or iTunes account, make sure you’ve got the necessary cords and attachments needed so you’re ready to go.
Sometimes you can take advantage of the kids behaving and get a ton of errands done (or maybe you get to run errands without the kids!). Getting a couple of items at several different stores doesn’t seem like a lot, but when you get home to unload, you’ll find a bunch of bags waiting to be taken inside. Having a bigger reusable bag in the car will allow you to stick several of the smaller bags inside and maybe you’ll be able to make it inside in just one trip.
Make sure you’ve got a portable battery charger and cord so you can charge your phone if you need to. Most cars give you the option to charge your phone through a USB port but you can’t always sit in your car while your phone charges. Being able to charge your phone in the bleachers or at the park can save you.
